When I had my past two clusters in the GTI I couldn't ever get the mpg to read correctly, it was always at 99.9. I switched the vacuum sensor thingy on the back of the cluster and it worked great after that. Just making a note here that vacuum leaks aren't always the culprit in incorrect mfa readings.

Now I'm showing around 30 - 31 mpg, and getting about 27 - 28 when I check trip odometer vs. gas pump readings. It makes a decent approximation, but shows roughly 10% optimism on my '87 GTi 16v. > Car is just shy of 219,000 miles, and still dead stock (do have aftermarket exhaust now, but engine has NEVER been touched internally). I'll accept that level of accuracy, given the method of calculation used. >Ron >----- Original Message ----- >From: Jerry Orona >To: Darron Schneider ; '[email protected]' >Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 4:52 PM >Subject: RE: MFA Accuracy > > >Same here.... > >Someone on the list said it may be a loose/broken vacuum hose on back of the intake manifold.. >I have yet to find such a vacuum leak. > >Anyone else averaging 99.9 mpg? > > > > >At 02:18 PM 6/19/01 -0700, Darron Schneider wrote: > > Ha, I've averaged 99.9 mpg for almost 2 years! > > -----Original Message----- > Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 15:03:08 -0400 > From: Doug Curtis <[email protected]> > Subject: RE: MFA Accuracy > > Mine is way off in the opposite direction.
