Bro, I did the 10.1" conversion in my 89 Jetta and I did not need
control arms to complete the conversion.
All you really need for the 10.1" conversion is the Spindle/hub,
calliper and thats about it.
It's definately not a hard swap, it will probably take a weekend at the
most to complete depending on how easy the current spindle comes off.
I have never heard of using A3 control arms for the 10.1" conversion.
