Actually the early 924s share something in common with VWs - it's
Dasher-inspired motor. In the world of Porsche, even 914s aren't
considered "real Porsches" b/c they used a hot-rodded VW bug motor
when they were first introduced in the early 70s.

Understandably price is a big issue when considering racing. That
having been said, anything that's remotely associated with Porsche
has an astronomical price tag. Hence Son is making a more logical
choice by racing a Miata since the cost of the cars is fairly low and
the availability of spares is plentiful.

As for 914s - a friend has a slightly modifed 3.2L 914-6 that's about
the only mid-engined car that I actually enjoyed driving. Unlike the
MR2, his 914 would actually bring the rear-end around especially
during a sweeper. While it's an interesting car, it's definitely not
for me however - the parts are simply too expensive for my tastes.
