Maybe a European A2 headlamp switch and/or harness works the same way.  I
recall noticing that the left side lamps and the right side lamps were wired
separate up to the switch on my 85.

I think that's still a requirement in some smaller European towns
where the roads are narrow and cars are parked on either side.  Take
a look at a Mercedes-Benz headlamp switch - It allows the user to
switch on the left or right side parking lamps for just this purpose
AND since it only illuminates one side of the car, it reduces the
battery drain.
