There is a searchable Archive with each Yahoo! Group. What would be great is if we could import all the messages from the last two archives and make it all searchable within YahooGroups but I guess that is too much to ask for...
These are all from Yahoo!'s site so take all this with a grain of salt. How do I transfer my email list to Yahoo! Groups? http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/groups-06.html What is the spam policy in Yahoo! Groups? How do I avoid spam? http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/groups-05.html Is it possible for a spammer to gather email addresses from Yahoo! Groups? http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/members/members-03.html I know I brought up the YahooGroups suggestion but I don't want everyone to think that I believe YahooGroups is the end all and be all of places to host the list. Another option might be to get a commercial listserver. They may be able to accommodate advanced features like importing old messages. I can do some research on providers like this if people are interested in this option. In the past we had raffles and donations to cover the cost of the list. Maybe we can revive these traditions. Now that I think about it maybe a commercial list provider that can import all the old messages, give us searchable web access to the complete archive and provides reliable service is something we should seriously consider. Even if we have to parse through the old messages to get them in the right format for importing I am sure we have a couple of programmers on the list that can help with this. Of course keeping it on Chad's server and helping him keep the list up and maybe add some of the missing features is also an option. And an easy one at that because we are already on Chad's server. Just throwing ideas out there. Keep up the dialogue. -Larry -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Chad Rebuck Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 12:14 AM To: Fli GLi; Bryon Kordenbrock; List A2-16V Subject: Re: [A2-16v] 16v list problems Isn't there a way on yahoogroups to do a mass email subscribe? Any subscriber on this list can gather the email addresses at http://maillist.myip.org/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v. Does anyone know how much space you get on yahoogroups? I think it is important to maintain searchable archives as well. Of course the list on my server isn't searchable yet, but I don't think it is much work I decide to add a search function. As I have mentioned to some people offline deerfield.com has assured me they will fix the dns problem permanantly, so there may not be any more problems to speak of.
