Well I can appreciate all you people's concern but the guy y'all are worried
about is ME, another member but infrequent contributor to this list. I get
digest so I got this a bit late. Thanks Dave for your words of support.
Josh, did you consider that I was taking the exact same risks with Pat's
Audi unseen? How was I supposed to get his to a mechanic either? On a deal
like this you have to be realistic and trust the other person is being
forthcoming. If you only look at one side of a thing you are never going to
see the whole thing.

Second point regarding my "fleet" No, this does not thin it but it does give
me a presentable car to take on business which the Red/Yellow scheme is not
and is well suitable to the Chicago winter I am headed for. My other 8V Golf
is actually not nearly as nice astetically but I have a lot of work in it
and I like it. For example I put a full Shine Racing suspension in it this
year.
Third point, regarding why I don't have the title: The car was layed up with
the bad trans (no reverse) until a short time ago. No reason to insure,
title, and tag a car you can't drive, Right? I wasn't asking Pat do anything
strange with the titles and he and I had already talked about some kind of
security. I really wasn't in a rush in the first place, I can wait a week
for the title, it's just I was passing "nearby"
to his house and we thought that awfully convenient. For myself, I would
really prefer to do the title swap at that time as well. Unfortunately I
hadn't seen Pat's offer prior to doing the title work otherwise I might have
taken a different approach.

It's a small VW world guys.

STOP!!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR WITHOUT HAVING IT CHECKED
OUT BY A TRUSTED SHOP!!!!

I don't care if the guy is willing to deliver it to
your driveway! The car has had significant work done
to it and there are likely lots of little (and not so
little) issues with it. You need to know this before
you do any deal.

I'ma lso suspicious about him turning the car so
quickly. Why is he getting rid of it?

Also, why did you sell your 2l 16v GTI to pick up
something like this? Your old GTI you knew about, and
you could've pulled the weitec suspension off, sold it
and been happy.

Additionally, due to the motor swap you'll be put into
prepared class for auto-x, where you're going to get
your butt totally kicked by race prepped lotus' etc.

Protect yourself here, get the car checked out, don't
go for convenience. Remember where that got you last
time...
