Subject: [a2-16v-list] Need help with Transmission selection
Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2005 23:01:52 -0800
I've revived the rebuilding/restoration of my A2 Golf and I just purchased
a
Peloquin Torque Sensing Differential for the O2O transmission from WRD
Racing. They had a nice price on the diff and the bolt kit.
See http://www.wrdusa.com
WRD already had a good price listed for the LSD but there was an
additional
discount because of an organized VORTEX group buy.
Now my dilema. My Golf was originally a 1.8l 8V with an ACN 5sp
transmission. This tranny has the gear ratios I prefer for freeway
driving.
However, This trans isn't known for its strength and its equipped with the
smaller 90mm flanges. So I don't think this would be a good candidate for
a
rebuild and LSD installation. I know I could change the flanges to 100mm
but
I think I remember the trannies from the early MKIIs had several
weaknesses.
The guys at WRD Racing suggested I look into MKIII 2.0l gearboxes because
they would have the 100mm flanges and the taller gearing.
Any input from your experiences would be appreciated? Any suggestions?
-Les
