I'm still alive and kicking (sorta). Haven't been very active on these lists between buying a house, club racing and supporting Grand Am Cup teams.
Don't know if I mentioned it or not (if I did, just ignore me, most people do) but the General Li took a good whack in September - got hit and spun down the Chute at Slummit Point. Hit the wall on drivers' right with the drivers' side, backwards at about 80 mph - the spectators said that they hadn't seen a car quite that high before as it spun in the air. Apparently I was fortunate to have not rolled but the car certainly took a good shot - the front was pushed to the right and up about 12 inches in each direction and the drivers' side was completely crushed. To VW's credit, I didn't break a single window and even though the door was bent around the impact beam, the window rolled up and down!! Being stubborn, I'm rebuilding the car - the front is straight and I'm working on having the quarter panel replaced. With any luck, I will be back on track for the first MARRS race at the end of April. Of course I'm not holding my breath as I don't look especially good in blue. Aside from that I don't have any 16v cars in my daily fleet anymore. I recently acquired an '81 Rabbit diesel Truckette to use as a commuter. I NEVER thought I'd drive another A1 again but its like a curse - old VWs just keep dropping into my life <G>. I've also sold the Audi V8 (or the VW 16v x2) and the M5 (after 9 years of ownership) for a '95 BMW 740i. Yeah, I'm getting soft in my old age but while the V8 and M5 were fun and interesting, I much prefer reasonably reliable, quick and comfortable these days. I'm trying to make time to write more of my exploits but its tough with this growing up and having responsibility stuff. If anyone is interested, I'll try to put together my experiences with a fledging Grand Am Cup team at Daytona earlier this year.
