I used to have onvol here in Gozo but that was in the pre-undersea
cable days. There was
constant disruption due to heat inversions which affected the
microwave system they
set up to get internet from Malta to Gozo (or so I was told from
non-onvol people).
Perhaps those issues are now resolved.

The disconnections which you describe was also a major issue and
quite frustrating.
I switched to Waldonet and have better service but have encountered
issues when
trying to use different ports.

Another issue I encountered with onvol was the caching system they
implemented. If I changed
html on a web site I would have to drop the "www." in order to see
the change but then
that page would be in cache and viewing changes meant waiting until
the next day sometimes.
[yes...I did clear browser cache and do all I could from my end...I
even had some people
on this list confirm that the issue was onvol caching]. Trying to
explain this to owners
of web sites (I've made several web sites free of charge to Maltese
artists such
as isabelleborg.com) results in much confusion. Phoning them to ask
them to clear cache
was extremely time consuming, expensive in telephone fees, and not
productive most of the time.

Bandwidth costs as compared to other countries & various restrictions
are my
biggest complaints. Customer service quality comes in at second
place...I even
had an executive explain to me that the problems with customer service
are the
direct result of "having been a people ruled over by others throughout
time".
That might be so...but blaming poor internet customer service on the
Phoenicians and
British is a bit of a stretch and not very helpful in improving things.
