This is talking about Canonical's decision to use the Unity "UI" as default
in some future version of Ubuntu.  Note that Unity is Free Software, not
proprietary: don't spread FUD, please.

Also Unity is derived from Gnome, so it's basically a different window-
manager, a different panel, and a few other such details.  I don't know
the details, but for all I know you might even be able to mix&match
(e.g. use the Unity panel with the metacity or compiz-fusion
window-manager, or vice-versa).

I haven't found anything there that's relevant to "BIG linux companies
