So fast fwd 10 years in theory all bell videotron etc… do is offer a router/modem in your home. The fact that they would refuse you any os that supports dhcp is ridiculous. My best advice is pick a reputable and reasonable $ provider and enjoy.

As many have mentioned if there are known issues it will rarely be on your OS side now days. You will most likely never be talking to support and if you do, your knowledge over level 1, might be light years ahead.

I agree, the OS has nothing to do with it. Install techs bring their own testing tools, but even then I just had a tech here to install bell fiber and he sat in front of ubuntu and called up speedtest.net without batting an eyelid.

I have never been asked what OS I use in setting up or requesting support from an ISP.
