Everything is possible with plugins. When 2.0 comes out, it will have the option for a pronunciation field, just as with the 3 sided cards from 1.x.
Post 2.0, I intend to add some separated functionality specific for Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic and Hebrew which streamlines this.
