No, because you cannot make a living on the road unless yopu're well known
(essentially through radio and press) and can command a decent price. I'd bet
that 90% of the bands that you see at a club are making under $100 and that's
to cover gas and everything else to the next show. We lose money on just
about every show we do. That's why so many bands who would otherwise eschew
the charms of a major label aspire to someday hear the term "Tour Support".
I think illegally pirating tunes on the Internet is just one more way to rip
off musicians. That's all. And once again, "Exposure" only means that you're
not getting paid.
