Not *that* wisely - if he'd said 'some Northern Soul' rather than most

It's also bloody awful - no soul at all.  Goes for the vast majority of
'Northern' instrumentals as far as I'm concerned (although there are
plenty of notable exceptions - I love 'Elijah Rocking With Soul' to bits
for instance).  It's also not all that rare and woul;d be regarded as a
played-out oldie at most clubs.

The scene has always (going back to the early 70's) been split on this
one, so it's easy to get confused.  The core of the noerthern scene from
the start was *very* much based on 60's music - anything recorded in the
70's was regarded (and still often is) as Modern Soul and was played in
a different room if at all.  There was some crossover, of course.  For
example, very few fans of 60's Northern would turn their noses up at
'Seven Day Lover' despite it technically coming from the wrong decade.
