GRIN, I don't want to fill the list with more chatter..

but peercon.org.. ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

and other (future) peercon lists would be a place where many of us with Vircom and other common backgrounds can gather, without cluttering up Vircom's lists.

I prefer the immediate messages.  John T was right, since we are not getting any more spam it is nice to click send & receive every now and again and actually get a valid piece of email.  Many of us rely on this list to get & give assistance when Vircom is celebrating Canada Day, Victoria Day, after hours, or the like.  LOL  What is the point of having a forum which sends you a notice.  You still get an email AND THEN you have to go somewhere else if you want to read the post.  Nay!

Web based forums are much less immediate no matter how you get notified.  How about you getting the list as a digest?

It has worked just fine for the last 5 years.

Take care,

How about a happy in between? A web based forum where a user can be notified by email of every new post? This way those of us who don't want to see everything all the time don't have to, yet we are informed when we want to be etc..

Counterpoint

Personally, I prefer the mail list.

Agreed it carries a lot of unnecessary noise (of which I admit to have been a part of from time-to-time), but I like the real-time info in my inbox rather than having to occasionally monitor a forum or newsgroup.  I think maybe keep the list as is and create web-based, up-to-minute archives

Actually, we are thinking of moving this to something else.  What exactly (forums, newsgroups) is not defined, but there is definitely a need for it.  We will let you know what we decide.

You guys talk too much!

I think moving this to a newsgroup server would be quite helpful. Whole threads could be bypassed. As it is, ten messages down the thread people are off on something else or just high-fiving each other.

I get more mail on this than all my other mailing lists combined.

Its just a mail server folks - there is life beyond it.
