* This is the modus mailing list * 400$ a month gets my users somewhere in the range of 800-1000 accounts (if they bargain a little). I charge $.50 for accounts without filtering, $1 for accounts with, but only in the +500 range. For less then 500 it was $1.50 and $2 respectively. This is not including an initial setup fee which covered either manual data entry, or the development of an automatic sign-up site for them.
Thought this might give you an idea. Good Luck. Basically, don't sell yourself short. Realize there is work involved in keeping this all going, and you will want to be able to afford new hardware, software upgrades, support plans, as well as provide helpdesk support and all that jazz. For 3,000 mailboxes I would discount it -- but still, I'd charge a LOT more than $400! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of TDE Internet Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2004 9:15 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Modus] Off topic, Charging for email. * This is the modus mailing list * At 08:20 PM 01/27/2004 -0500, you wrote: >* This is the modus mailing list * > >I will be using a form page for accounts and use sql database for >authentication. My first thought was that If you have to do the support for all these mailboxes, then $400 is a heck of a bargain to say the least...especially if this includes virus and spam filtering. I realize some of that is discounted to be 'part of the community', but I know how many email and calls we take in reference to email related issues/questions. Even $1 per mailbox would still be a bargain. Yep, they can go get a Hotmail or Yahoo account for free, but see if they get any support or 'real' answers to their questions. I guess part of my feeling on it is based on not so good relationships with non/not for profit groups over the years. They want the services for less, yet typically need the most support. :( That's my 2 cents worth..
