I upgraded my April 2011 15" MBP i7 Quad-Core about 4 weeks ago, and haven't had any problems. I run w7x64 in a VM under Fusion all day, and it's definitely helped
I used Patriot PC3-10600 1333 MHz, 2x8GB.
