Tom and all,
You are so correct. Fading is the worst. I recently had a customer that had a one sheet from Song Remains the Same. He had gotten it on ebay for what he thought was a good price. When he unrolled it, while it looked pretty good, I told him it was extremely faded. He thought I was kidding until I showed him a copy that was not faded. He was blown away. Couldn't believe the difference. I recently had someone send me a Cool Hand Luke. Well, when it fades that orange color changes to pink. There is no way to bring back color from fading unless they paint the poster. Many times when a poster is cleaned before linenbacking, the color bumps up somewhat and appears brighter usually from the dinge being washed away.

I bought a Star Wars half sheet on ebay about 2 years ago. The picture in the listing was great. The only thing that was mentioned was that there was a bit of slight yellowing on the back of the poster. Well, when I got it, the poster was so faded and not the poster that was pictured in the listing. Blue's in paper have a tendency to fade to pinky purple and the back of the poster has corrugation marks on it. It had obviously been framed between glass and cardboard for a long time.

I have seen remarkable restoration jobs of severely faded posters. I saw a poster that looked like it has sat at the bottom of a lake for 50 years. You could barely see an image, just faint outlines, and when Igor was done with it, it was spectacular. But then we get into the debate of restoration vs. recreation.

I'm actually getting UV plexi for a HUGE 2panel
Barbarella through Sue Heim.  I just need enough $$ to
get it.  But through Sue, I found the plexi to be
quite reasonable.

I may head over to the auction to be a fly on the wall
and see some of the faded beauties.
