Not sure about the time frame there, but I'd have to say David
Cronenberg's THE FLY remake was a far superior film than the original.
Of course Cronenberg's film was - as is often the case with his films -
a serious film presented in the guise
of a "horror" film.
The original, while a more faithful adaptation of it's original short
story source, has become something of a high camp B movie, particularly
it's closing, "Help me! Help me!" scene. To fully appreciate the 1950
THE FLY, it really must be seen on the big screen to enjoy its various
visual merits (flyvision, for example).
Cronenberg's film carries just as much dramatic punch in black and white
on a 10" TV.
I can't imagine what a remake of THE OMEN can add, apart from more
graphic special effects.
Hollywood, of course, eats itself every 20 or so years.

one of my favorite films is DIAL M FOR MURDER, 54 hitchcock. i refuse
to watch remakes of brilliant films. I remember being on a plane, and
the remake was shown. as being a member of this captive audience, i
started watching it. it was so stupid, and so violent and so
different, i took off my headset.................
was there any remake in the past 20 years better than the original?
