Never bought any posters until 2 years ago when I wanted to have an 80's party so though ahhh maybe a poster would add a retro feel. So I found on ebay a french 47 x 63 poster of 1987 madonna concert, apparently put in a bus shelter, cost about $150 which I thought a fortune. I was struck by the size, impact and history of the original when I recieved it. http://www.mysterycorp.com/multimedia/posters/posters_my_summary/MadonnaWho_300.jpg
It was folded so I researched how to try to flatten the folds and when at a conservation store to arrange it steamed flat, they recommended me instead go to a poster restorer to get it backed for the same price. At the restorer I saw heaps of beautiful colourful advertising posters from 40s - 60s and a few movie posters. I then decided I would love to get some advertising posters so got this (Bellinger Bourin 1936) huge one on ebay for a few hundred bucks: http://www.mysterycorp.com/multimedia/posters/posters_my_summary/BellBourin_300.jpg Then started some bigger purchases (still advertising) (about 9 feet long - made for side of french bus): http://www.mysterycorp.com/multimedia/posters/posters_my_summary/Vichy_300.jpg Then with the interest in posters, I started to checkout the movie posters on ebay along with the advertising ones I was already checking out, but was very worried about the image quality of movie posters compared to advertising posters (movie posters often pixelated, dotty when looking close) but went ahead and found an online store and got this 3sht: http://www.mysterycorp.com/multimedia/posters/posters_my_summary/HotCarGirl_300.jpg Well, now for some reason I collect cheaper movie posters, which I often regret buying... I had better sense back then. Back then I spent big (for me) and got posters I liked more. I collect only for the art - no posters so far purchased for any actors - I rarely watch movies or tv... I generally give blank face expressions when people talk movies, or actors from the past. I generally only collect one sheets and bigger.
