Fun Thread!
Hmmm... Well, my earliest childhood memories include reading Famous
Monsters of Filmland magazine (well, at least looking at the pictures)...
when I was five years old, my folks let me order the Frankenstein and Dracula
repro posters from their Captain Company. I still have the remains of those
posters.
I guess I was around 7 or 8 when I got my first One-Sheet... it was
Blazing Saddles... being a Rated-R movie, I was unable to see it until years
later, but at the time Young Frankenstein was my favorite film and John
Alvin's artwork for it blew me away... (it took me years to finally score a
mid-grade YF OS, only to upgrade to a really nice one last year thanks to
POSTEROPOLIS!!!)
On the inside jacket of Young Frankenstein's Soundtrack Album,
there's a photo of Mel Brooks wearing a Blazing Saddles shirt. Anyway, after
the
local theater's re-release of Blazing Saddles, I found a very worn
One-Sheet in the alley behind the theater and immediately ran it home and put
it on
my wall. It was missing the top right corner and very worn, but I didn't
care.
Since then I've been through several Blazing Saddles posters with my
most recent still in My eBay Store:

... Got it from Heritage and they gave it a VF... looks like I need
to re-take the photo thanks to eBay's new imaging... Not trying to make a
sale or anything, but MoPoer's get 10% off ANY orders from My Store!
At age 13, I worked for a comic / collectible store in Iowa City
(Sensational Comics) which also sold movie posters, so THAT'S where things
went
crazy... then managing movie theaters in the mid- '80s helped the
collection too, needless to say. Have sold a lot of those since, and miss
them, but
held on to the ones I really liked, and used the money to upgrade my Famous
Monsters. I came full-circle, I guess.
Thanks for letting me rant, folks.
