It was Bruce Lee that got me started.  In the 70s I was a die hard Bruce Lee
collector and bought anything and everything I could from his films.  For the
longest time it was just photos, slides, 8mm film and magazines but then I ran
across a mail order seller who had Bruce Lee movie posters from countries all
over the world.  I actually started collecting the foreign ones before getting
my first US ones.  The Japanese ones were my favorites but I had a 6 sheet from
south america that was the biggest I had ever seen at the time.  My love and
fascination for movie memorabilia grew from that.  I started buying collections
when I could find them, take out what I wanted for myself and selling the
rest.  To this day I still consider myself more of a hobbyist than a dealer but
my wife says if I keep everything I currently have then I better find a bigger
place to live (alone!) so I keep thinning out my collectibles and if I time it
right this will
take me until I am 100 (i am half way there).

Subject: [MOPO] ON Topic...What the Hell Got You Into this Odd Little Hobby??

OK, OK, perhaps I'm being biased and presumptuous again, but, yeah,  maybe it's
time to take a break from the American Idol talk. I think I'm starting to grow
a uterus.
I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but I'm really curious; what was
it that drove you to become a collector of movie paper? Obviously, we all love
films, but where did you find that first piece that set the hook? did you come
across it by chance, or did you seek it out? Who sold it to you? This ain't
exactly a mainstream hobby like stamp collecting, so what beaten path did you
step off of to become a hopeless poster geek? There's a treasure trove of
old-time collectors on this list, plus a fair amount of new blood (those guys
under 70), and I'm sure there's some fascinating tales out there. I always
enjoyed Bruce H's collector profiles...now I'd like to hear about some of my
MOPO mates. I'll chime in later; after months of lurking, I've suddenly
developed explosive MOPO diarrhea, so I'll give you guys a break and listen.
