OK, OK, perhaps I'm being biased and presumptuous again, but, yeah,
maybe it's time to take a break from the American Idol talk. I think I'm starting to grow a uterus. I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but I'm really curious; what was it that drove you to become a collector of movie paper? Obviously, we all love films, but where did you find that first piece that set the hook? did you come across it by chance, or did you seek it out? Who sold it to you? This ain't exactly a mainstream hobby like stamp collecting, so what beaten path did you step off of to become a hopeless poster geek? There's a treasure trove of old-time collectors on this list, plus a fair amount of new blood (those guys under 70), and I'm sure there's some fascinating tales out there. I always enjoyed Bruce H's collector profiles...now I'd like to hear about some of my MOPO mates. I'll chime in later; after months of lurking, I've suddenly developed explosive MOPO diarrhea, so I'll give you guys a break and listen.

I'm 47 years old, so I guess that makes me one of the "young" guys ? LOL . Thanks , Greg.

I started a very, very modest collection of movie posters about 10 years ago, when I came across a little shop in Singapore selling movie memorabilia . The first poster I bought was Back to the Future, which was a film that really impacted me when I was younger, and that got me hooked. I went on to buy a lot of Star Wars posters, again because the classic Star Wars trilogy meant so much to me when they came out. Sadly, many of those posters sold to me by a US based poster dealer ( he's NOT on MOPO ) turned out to be fake , as I later found out through this great mailing list. Sad, but hey, I'm since learned because of this list to be a LOT more discerning who I buy from !

My favourite piece is the Bicycle across the Moon E.T. poster which I bought off a Christies' New York Auction.

I don't buy for investment, because it is nigh to impossible keeping ANY paper pristine here in hot and humid Singapore, so I only buy movie posters of films that have impacted and moved me, even the newer movies. I buy them solely to enjoy and don't ever think of getting any investment return from them, because most are contemporary film posters. Obviously, I don't buy a lot nowadays, but I still enjoy listening to all the many interesting discussions about movie posters on this list.

Keep those discussions coming !
