There's a Roman Cieslewicz Exhibition on at the Royal College of Art
in London at the moment.
While it won't be exclusively film posters, he did a fair few, and
good ones.
I haven't attended yet, but imagine when I do the average age will rise.
While Polish posters have generally been under-appreciated, I can see
younger people going for them, and the prices on many of the pieces
are not off-putting.
Heartening to see Krzysztof's site high on google when you search the
designer's name.

I see the hobby expanding within the area I live in everyday.
Tattoo shops, pop culture clothing stores, art galleries and coffee
shops are starting to displays film related material either original
artworks inspired from films or movie poster related items. I
noticed that when ever I see an item hung on a wall it is matted and
framed and it looks so much better being displayed that way. I like
the idea of not slabbing because I like the feel of older paper in
my hands, it looks better being displayed in a nice matt and frame,
slabbing makes it feel less personal. Kinda like the history of
this item just ended the day it was slabbed. Unslabbed items will
be handled by many different people through out its lifetime. It
adds more history and collectability to it. Just my opinion.....

Dave,
Get the most out of right now and never fail to enjoy as much of it
as you can, because you are currently living through what will
inevitably become your own "good old days" that you will be moaning
about decades from now. Trust me on this... :)

You're right, Peter, part of it is getting the word out. No offense
to some on this forum, but many poster dealers are of a certain
generation who are set in their ways and have a certain way of doing
business that almost guarantees diminishing returns. Much as I
respect them, many learned the business in the 1970s and many have
been selling the same way to (in many cases) the same people for
decades.
That's fine, but, well, the hard truth is people get older, get sick
and die. So if that's the way you run your business, sadly, your
client base is definitely shrinking.
Meanwhile, there is a small but, I maintain, a significant and
potentially robust new market that many dealers are not even aware
of because they do not run in those circles.
Many of the people I deal with are young artists, musicians,
designers, decorators and even tattoo artists. All these clients
have a fascination with graphic design and pop culture that goes
back to the 1930s. As they mature and their tastes develop they will
become more sophisticated collectors (though many already have very
sophisticated tastes).
This is an exciting prospect for a dealer like myself who has
confidence that there is a future to the hobby, thanks to these
savvy clients. But, hey, I'm just one of the new guys so maybe
that's why I think that way. I don't have the "good old days" to
moan about.
