HiI personally would be pretty annoyed that the actual words "F*ck You" hadn't
been flagged up in the listing ("Listen Darling, F*ck You" is not really an
appropriate alternative title for a Freddie Bartholomew film).
It would be interesting to hear what a restorer thinks of attempting to remove
these words with an eraser seeing as they are in pencil. It's possible that
the seller will say caveat emptor if you didn't ask questions in advance, but I
would have thought that you had a reasonable case for a refund. Either way,
it's poor form that you haven't been responded to after a week.

Subject: [MOPO] an eBay lobby card purchase - your opinion?

hello all:
A couple weeks back, I purchased a lobby card on eBay. The description of the
card said, "CONDITION: The card is not numbered. There is pencil on Walter’s
face and faint writing behind his head. There is one worm hole in the center of
the upper border and light soiling on the surface. Condition is Good-Very
Good."
I usually do not bid on cards that have writing. However, her description said,
"faint writing behind his head" and I looked at the enlarged photo and, quite
frankly, didn't see any writing and thought it must be as described ('faint').
The link below shows the enlarged photograph which was in her description on
eBay.

When I returned last Sunday from another wonderful weekend at Cinevent, the
card had arrived in the mail. I was totally shocked when opened the package and
saw the card. The writing behind Walter Pidgeon's face, was not faint by any
means and the writing said "f*ck you", written in pencil or pen. Link below
shows extreme close-up of this portion of the card she sent me.

I know that if I or just about any other dealer on this list was posting this
lobby card online, the description would not say 'faint writing behind his
head'. It would definitely be more descriptive and say exactly what was
written there and certainly the listing would not indicate that it was 'faint'
or hard to see.
I wrote to the seller immediately via the eBay contact option last Sunday. As
of ten minutes ago Saturday 10AM EST, she has not responded to me.
While I don't like to give negative feedback ratings, I am leaning heavily
toward it in this case because she posted a photo in an enlarged view which did
not accurately show the writing which was easily visible and (2) she totally
ignored my email after I received the card.
Due to privacy issues, I do not wish to publicy post a link to the eBay listing
or publish the seller's eBay ID. If anyone would like to see the actual
listing, please write me privately.
I would, however, very much like to her your opinion and thoughts about this
transaction.
Thanks!
Best,
Alan Herskowitz
