I think it was like every auction Tommy

some high prices, some low prices, some items with too-high reserves not selling

a number of items that did not garner first bid I felt were obviously reserved too high by the owners and this is an area where I think most people miss the boat

Factually, high reserve prices don't help the seller or the consignor. If there is going to be a reserve, it should be well less than half it's 'apparent value' OR even better, the way that everything I send HA goes to auction...

NO RESERVE~

that's right, every item I send Heritage - or any other auction - is with no reserve what-so-ever... and the incredible thing? Heritage sells my stuff for record prices!
this past week in their comics auction they sold 3 items for me, all of which I sent with no reserve.
I would have been happy if they ended at 8-10k in total, but what did HA do for me?

they sold one item for $15,000.00 (with BP) that their previous sale was $3800.00
they sold one item for $9600.00 even though the last sale of the same item, in May of this year, was for $4780.00
the 3 items brought $26,300 with BP...

these sold with no reserve and started at low prices and myself, that's how I think it should be.

I'm not 'fishing' to find out who will pay the most outrageous price that can possibly be matched
I'm trying to sell it and I'm going to be happy with whatever I get and this is how I believe all consignors should think

I don't care what you paid for something. It has nothing to do with the sale value - today, right now, in this auction.

when I send HA posters or comics or art I only want one thing sent to me - a check.

If everyone paid attention to this concept, Heritage would have sold every last item for what is at the moment 'fair market value'

collectibles are not stock certificates, they are abstracts and there is not a 'standard value' for any of them

No Reserve sells 100%, and reserves are not at the insistence of Heritage, but the owners

Obviously I would expect you to defend the auction prices, Grey, and there is no doubting that as a whole it was probably a very successful auction for you, with some high prices over estimate. I am not raising the matter of lower bids in an effort to denigrate the auction, but I was not 'picking out specific items'. I had a watchlist of 150 items and 66 of those failed to attract a bid at the lower estimate, which is 44%. Apart from those I also noticed some others performed likewise in the times I was watching the live auction.   I do not believe that HA  is inclined to over-estimate, so there must presumably be some other reason for that.

One might pick out specific items that sold lower but generally speaking $1.6mm was a good auction and no, there were no less bidders participating if our number are correct.

This amounts to a general value of around $1600 per poster.

I am surprised one would find this to be a lower valued auction.

That being said, thank you to all of our buyers and consignors!

It was a nice success.

So what? Some items fetched high prices, but there were still a number which were unexpectedly low, certainly in the lower ranges. Just wondering if MOPOers have any ideas as to why that should be so.

Yeah, those 2001 Space Odyssey Lenticulars went for double what they normally go for.

All the best.

I watched the auction.   It felt like there were not that many people participating live as in the past.   But that’s a guess.     It also seemed that people were selective on what got a lot of attention.    And their definitely were a few items that did very very well.         It will be interesting to see what happens at the upcoming  Emovieposter auction before I think if we are seeing a new trend.
