We’ve been using UPS for everything over $299 domestically since the post
office has felt iffy for some time now - and didn’t pay off on a couple of
obvious PO handling errors. I got a tube in the mail sliced nearly in half and
they wouldn’t pay up - and no one higher up to put eyes on the issue. We always
fully insure and now get sign-offs at the other end. No problems in 2 years.

In that time, we've made friends with a couple of the folks who run our local,
smaller UPS store (coincidentally, they used to ship for Profiles when they
were in Los Angeles), and it's almost like we have a concierge service.
Something goes missing - we call them, and they call up the ladder - very
efficient - very focused - they care - and they help us fine-tune the parcels
we ship. We take the PO and UPS Christmas baskets of snack food each year! The
takeaway is to build a working relationship with whoever ships for you -
whenever you can - try to use the same person or couple of people that are most
experienced - that makes an incredible difference to the process and peace of
mind.
