We have had UPS explicitly admit fault twice for obvious transit damage
to packages (once in 2024, once in 2025). In both instances, the
packages were covered by a separate transit insurance policy alongside
UPS's $100 automatic coverage.
In both cases, the shipments arrived completely crushed and torn open.
UPS tried to shift the blame to us, citing poor packaging and flimsy
materials. However, our fulfillment process is deliberate: we pack
posters into sturdy tubes (typically from Yazoo Mills) and then place
those tubes inside outer cardboard boxes. This complies with
non-cylindrical package requirements to avoid $15+ surcharges. Because
our outer boxes alone aren't designed to bear the full brunt of transit,
the inner tube serves as the primary protection.
Following both incidents, UPS sent us a two-page guide on packing
standards and demanded higher-quality outer boxes, completely ignoring
the fact that a heavy-duty inner tube should easily survive standard
transit conditions.
*
First Incident: They paid the $100 standard insurance without
hassle, and our private transit coverage covered the rest.
*
Second Incident: UPS initially refused payout, again blaming the
outer box. When we pushed back and highlighted the heavy-duty inner
tube (which they had initially ignored), they grudgingly accepted
responsibility and paid the $100.
I definitely agree that getting carriers to admit fault is becoming much
harder. For that reason, we always use external, private insurance for
any high-value packages.

I was wondering if anyone of you ever filed a successful damage claim

Terms of Service vary from country to country, and in Germany UPS does
not insure highend collectibles. UPS Germany also clearly states in
their ToS that 'we do not have to tell you this when we grab your
insurance money'.
Also, their 'packing requirements' are so ridiculous that they will
effectively NEVER pay for damages.

I ship items, especially high end items, via UPS as they insure for
items much higher than Fedex or the post office (which I don't have
much confidence in). For any of you that ship material frequently,
you might check out Pirate Ship. They are a company that contracts
with the post office and UPS for volume discounts and they give great
discounts, have incredible customer service (Hello Matey) and they
offer the post office and UPS. I've been using them for a few years
and have never had any issues and an say they are one of the best
companies I've ever dealt with.....I've gotten several dealers and
others that ship routinely to get into their program.

Sue

I don’t have much choice sending auction items from Australia. It
always feels risky but I use the postal service and sometimes Fedex or
UPS. Havent had any problems in all the years I have been sending
things to the US.

I have sent posters to Bruce, Propstore and Heritage over the

Bruce great to deal with and have sent a huge amount of posters to
him over the years. Everything has sold and there is never an
issue with payment or communication. Grey at Propstore is also
great to deal with. The best result I ever had was with Heritage
but that was around 10 years ago. Their high buyers premiem puts
me off a bit. I used to send a lot to Christies in London but I
don’t think they do much these days.

I sent items to Propstore for the first time last year and did
very well. I have customers that have tried to contact Heritage
to auction items off and have never heard back after talking with
two or three different people. I told them that had never been
the case in the past but I've now heard from a few people that
were having the same issue. Now, they had never auction anything
before so weren't familiar names to those at Heritage but one
customer in particular had some very high end piece to
sell.....Grey at Propstore, as he was when at Heritage is very
nice to deal with. Depending on what you have, I've had several
customers over the past couple years send material to Bruce at
emovieposter.com <http://emovieposter.com> and have done very
well. That's the scoop from my end.
