Right now the more islamist-orientated Turkish government has allowed the headscarf in universities and some see it as a democratic turn, while other see it as giving the devil the little finger. I.e. that it will soon turn from freedom to coercion (to dress according to faith) I see the latter as possible, for some reason the Islamic world seems to withdraw into itself the more it comes "under fire". All pressure from the West (for instance to free the Afghan journalist (with a death sentence for having spread anti-islam articles) looks like undermining their moral universe ... and it is.
