I found it interesting that Pirsig and co. would find it odd
That the tribesman responded the way he did to the question
Of what kind of dog it was. Living in the present, one would
Want to know about the immediate situation, will that dog attack?
Is it friendly to humans? But the visitors were more interested in its
Breeding which had no bearing on the present situation. 

Interesting about what was valued, about the frame of reference
And the inference of the question, I don't think he meant it was
A quality dog so much as it was a dog that posed no threat.
