First has no meaning without a second, third, fourth, etc., just as one
has no meaning without many. Those are givens. What seems hard for you to
acknowledge is individuals we're talking about are human beings, not ants.

This has never been hard for me to acknowledge. But that is about as close
to recognition of the importance of the social context as I have heard from
you so I'll just hold there. Give it time to sink in.
