Hi Ian

Naturalism is part of the Enlightenment inheritance,
limiting our outlook to it undermines the true riches
of experience, an analysis of which gives us the MOQ
in contrast to the limits of SOM. For the full Taylor
analysis of Enlightenment that includes the SOM thing
but also other philosophical and political and social
aspects of the 'flatland' that Enlightenment at it's worst
(its by no means all bad and with much of huge use)
gives us, you need to read his 'Sources of the Self'.
Of couse, naturalism is important and useful, I used
to grind everything to its mill myself, but it can be very
limiting I'd suggest. For me a matter of the greater
value of those few writers/thinkers that can think
beyond its limits. Dawkins being a classic of those
that fail to. Taylor's Sources of the Self book is on google books
by the way.

Also, how can naturalism handle the concept of 'the possible'?
The possible has not yet appeared in nature.

David M
