Hi SA

Magnus:
I thought you with:
"Not necessarily a 'thing', I
would say 'event', for me at least, is a better way
of putting this."
meant that a pattern is an event. Did I misinterpret
that?

SA: Maybe. You could say 'thing', but the baggage,
so, I was looking for an analogy that we've been using
on this forum to help better streamline the
understanding.

Did you have a particular analogy in mind? In which case, which one?

SA: Ok. It may not have said, 'The Moq uses pattern
in this way, which differs from these provided
definitions..." I didn't see a need for this
clarification in 'moq definition' versus/distinction
'dictionary definition'. What's the difference?

The difference comes from the fact that the MoQ is a metaphysics that tries to redefine what reality is made of using new building blocks. And since there's no word for these new building blocks, Pirsig had to use an existing word that resembled what he had in mind for the new building blocks as much as possible. He chose "pattern", which as you said about "thing", carries baggage. The baggage is mostly useful but can also be misleading, which is why I try to avoid using old definitions of MoQ terms.

        Magnus
