p.s. Ya' know, I didn't plan on that--sometimes it amazes me how
everything I start turns into a thing about Plato.

Difficult not to. Especially with the subject matter. I would love to
delve into this aspect further if you are open to it.
Matt:
Well, most people find it easier than me.
Is there something in particular with Plato you wanted to discuss?
Ron:
I see a great difficulty in escaping Platonism when speaking
philosophically. It would mean re-defining philosophic terms
entirely. which is what you might be advocating. but I see this task
as daunting and isolating itself in esoteria . I think the
prudent method is to embrace Platonism for what it is which I think
Pirsig does when he reveals how the whole thing evolved and originated.
He saw that sophistry was encased in the platonic system and could
not hope to win in an open argument it could only hope to stalemate.
Then the breakdown, the psychosis.
When he saw he could step out of the arena entirely. calling it SOM.
creating a meta arena. Now he can come at it with it's own tools plus
the original tool he created, the dynamic/static distinction. which
in itself redefines the conceptual understanding of terms of subject/
object distinction. In this arena sophistry is dynamic it takes truth
away from the concrete universal and places back into abstract
experience
where it has more certainty which restores the balance of empirical
truth finding radically per James.
So if we approach the MD as a radical exchange of building personal
conceptual understanding, we can forgo the Platonic ghost which
haunts the forum looking to establish a victory of dialectic.
