Arlo said to Platt:
What part of what Gav said was "mistaking biological for Dynamic Quality"?
That's why Pirsig said the hippie movement, a MORAL movement, failed
ultimately. But apart from that confusion (biological with Dynamic) it was the
moral direction we should have gone. Now... what part of what Gav said repeats
that mistake?

dmb says:
Right. You could almost see the idealism fade away as pot smoking "free love"
devolved into coke snorting disco. Not that free love was ever the answer, but
for a while hedonism almost seemed like a legitimate form of political
protest. Free love must have been truly liberating for that generation,
especially for women. I think it is no accident that the orgasm was invented
during this period, the period of the mythical bra burning. And I suppose that
stuff like LSD was the road to enlightenment for only a few while most just
used it as a party toy. I think this is sort of thing Pirsig is talking about.
And I happen to know that Gav is not an advocate of free love. He charges a
thousand dollars for love, which is too steep for me. But he agreed to like me
for a hundred bucks, so I settled for that.
