Ian said to dmb:
...I was shocked at your statement suggesting the Pirsig had said everything
that needed saying on the social / intellectual levels matter. Obviously my
"silly" question back at you was rhetorical - intended to to get you to explain
what you DID mean by it. [and previously] ...is that you suggesting Pirsig's
words are final and not open to discussion and improvement?

dmb replies:
I asked Mati why the committee objected to the answers supplied in Lila. I
suppose you're talking about that.

How perfect could Pirsig's answers be if the committee rejected them? (That's a
rhetorical question, by the way.) Who said anything about final, perfectly
complete answers that are beyond improvement? The Pope, maybe. See, you've put
a rather bizzare (and insulting) spin on a perfectly legitimate question,
namely, "What were the objections to Pirsig's explanations?". Your objections
to this are based on nothing. Thanks for another pointless distraction, genius.
