i don't have a problem with sustaining. it suggests that one nurtures one's body and social soul...seems sensible to me. the prob is in killing intellectual patterns. for me anyway. seems strange that the topmost static pattern division needs to be wiped in order that we be aligned with the tao. what point the intellect then? does the intellect serve as a bridge perhaps? ie it sets up good practices (social and biological nurturing) until these practices are natural and automatic, at which point the intellect's next task is to turn itself off? what do you think?
