MP said to Arlo:You ask if it takes faith to believe in light. You ask the same of "Light." You fail to acknowledge there is a world of difference between the two.
dmb says: Arlo's dog doesn't know about the scientific explanations of what light is nor does he have any notions of divine "Light". Neither of these are required to know what Quality is. C'mon, MP. You've felt the comforting warmth of the sun. You've taken shade under a big cool tree. You know what that's like, why its better than not and this requires no faith. To pretend otherwise only makes you look disingenuous or totally numb. You want somebody to PROVE that it's pleasant to take a nap in the sun on a cold winter day? Really? Assuming that you haven't been in a coma for your entire life, what the hell is doubtful about that? Being skeptical about that is the kind of thing that gives skepticism a bad name. Yours is a totally fake skepticism about plain, ordinary empirical reality. The term refers to experience itself and can't logically be denied. As for the MOQ, the system of thought which uses this empirical reality as its starting point, that is not taken on faith either. It's not something you believe in on the basis of faith but admire for it's explanatory power, internal coherence, logical consistency. It makes no claim to exclusive truth, unlike most faith-based systems. The MOQ says the MOQ is just an analogy. One of the things I find most admirable is that it is in sync with so many other analogies. That's what the perennial philosophy says, that each "truth" is an analogy of a reality that can't be defined. It can really only be known directly, that is to say IN lived experience. Our verbal descriptions can only point to it indirectly, through figures of speech, metaphors, symbols and -yes - analogies. _________________________________________________________________ HotmailĀ® is up to 70% faster.
