For instance, Arlo, wiki contradicts your assertion that Nazism wasn't
socialism. Nazism combined aspects of socialism and capitalism. It definitely
used state control of industry, and biology and intellect, for that matter.

[Arlo]
Well, America and most Western European economies (not to mention Japan,
Australia, etc.) are some form of mixed "socialism-capitalism" economy. My
point was that to say equate socialism with Nazism (or Hitler personally) with
the intent of demonizing socialism is manipulative rhetoric. Again, what was I
initially responding to is this rhetoric that has systematically (pun intended)
been used to demonize not just the term "socialism" but (as in the article)
communalism, community and collectivism.

[John]
To my thinking then, this strident insistence of the gay community for
obtaining the label "marriage" is kinda silly in a craving for acceptance way.

[Arlo]
Not being gay, I can't offer personal insight into this, except to say that its
the likely result that "marriage" is a catch all term, and hence to allow
everyone else's "civil union" to be called a "marriage" but theirs is just
dumb. (For example, if you got to a Justice of the Peace, a non-religious,
state-only civil ceremony, you still get "married".) So, when heterosexual
couples who get "united" only in the civil sense are also denied the use of the
word "married", I think the insistence of using this term will fade. Tax forms,
too, should not have a check box for "married" but "in a civil union".
