Mati: "This "what is it like to be ..." is another conundrums that SOM imposes....." This is true but I think it is so important to understand that this vital question of, "is it real" is what started the whole intellect business and got us to where we are.
Andre: Hi Mati and welcome. I know I am late in this but I have not, directly responded to your posts before. What is real? you ask. There lived a bloke once, who said that "Philosophers have only sought to interpret the world, the point however is to change it'. This bloke is not much favoured by some on this forum (Platt and Ham in particular). His name is Karl Marx. Prejudice and projection you will get from these two. (I dearly enjoy their contributions, do not get me wrong... but Platt loves the MoQ because he thinks it supports his notion of individual freedom and the free-market system ...defended with tooth and nail and gun and Ham because he analyses things nicely ...but then falls forever in SOM with his value sensible, proprietary agent. He wants a logical explanation of everything so that it is epistomologically and ontologically sound. I think that the MoQ does attempt to change the world by a reinterpretation that makes sense, not necessarily epistomologically/ ontologically/dialectically (because you can apply it to yourself and everything you hear, see and feel around you everyday and I do not only mean biologically or socially) by positing that what is real...what is reality (are these the same in your opinion?) is Quality. It is so simple that it is beyond even the common sense shit one hears every day on radio and TV, and reads about in magazines and newspapers. You talk about Aristotle 'proposing' the SOM split and making it into a metaphysics....and here our modern scientific understanding of reality was born (Pirsig) As I suggested in an earlier post the way this was dealt with SCIENTIFICALLY was not a statement of the be all and end all of the discussion. Scientific understanding remained open to dynamic quality. The culprit was religion...because it was not open to DQ. What is real? You contribute to your own reality..and that of others' and that of the universe in exactly the same way as we are participating here on this discuss, influencing eachother (yes even Platt and Ham) in an endeavour to reach some deeper understanding, some harmony, meaning our waves interlocking together contributing to the One. Andre, Going to China, to see for myself (again) Yea, I'm going to China, to see for myself (again) Just gonna get 'm some rock and roll. (John Lennon) For what it is worth.
