[Ian to Carl]
It just goes to show there is good and bad PC

[Arlo]
Hi Carl, Ian. Let me just point out to Carl, since he lacks the history here,
that my reply to Platt was to demonstrate exactly this. The "PC" that brought
many people to levy death threats against the Dixie Chicks was "championed" by
the very people Platt holds as "anti-PC". Crying "PC" is simply a strawman,
used to set up an "other" even though its clear the same tactics are used by
oneself.

Ian's point here is the same as the one I made during the last rehashing of
this topic in this forum. There is "good PC" (example, being sensitive to the
feelings of the mentally-challenged and not referring to them as "retards"),
there is "silly PC" (example, turning "garbagemen" into "sanitation
engineers"), and there "bad PC" (example as Platt correctly points to, the
inability to question actions of soldiers within the military's ranks due to
their professed religion).

One other point though, my grandmother used the word "inappropriate" to
describe behavior that was, well, not right for the situation. And she was born
in 1912, so I don't think "inappropriate" is some newspeak variant of
"indecent". It is the right word to describe some behavior or remarks.

Anyhoo... welcome aboard, Carl. And don't let Platt's ad hominems fool you, I
don't champion anything that leads to people being murdered.
