Your concern is touching. It reminds me of Bill's "I feel your pain."

All newcomers need to know is that Pirsig's work attracts folks from the
entire political spectrum from extreme left to extreme right and everywhere
in between. Of course any who wish can warp it to support their political
bent, and do.

But the bottom line is that in nearly 15 years of discussions there has been
no consensus on how to interpret his work let alone what the political
implications might be. In fact as the discussions have progressed a general
pattern has evolved. Those who have stayed with it longest have each
stabilized their positions to the point that they are irreconcilable with
any other reading of the work.

Hard as it is for the Western mind if you treat his works as koans it may be
possible to minimize the intellectual traps.
