I heard something interesting this morning on the radio. About rebuilding the twin towers - or the freedom tower, or even a hot dog stand, on the site of the WTC. I guess they've done three or four groundbreakings, laid a granite cornerstone (later pulled up and moved), each time the abort and restart comes complete with flowery speeches, politicians cutting ribbons, bombastic rhetoric about our resolve and grit... and... nuthin. why go to all the trouble of actually building stuff when you can just keep milking the ceremonies proclaiming America's Greatness? Part of the problem is, of course, financial, what with the economy and all. But the Empire State was built in a year, during the depression. All in the past.
