Let me clarify Platt, Again you're confusing the intellectual level (a value level) with > "thinking" -- a critical difference that has been discussed "a hundred > times in a hundred ways" to quote one of my favorite contributors. > >
I'm not confusing the intellectual level with thinking. It'd be closer to say I'm confusing the intellectual level with thinking about thinking, but that's not the whole thing either. Merely thinking about thinking is an intellectual activity, but an intellectual pattern must be "sq'ed" somehow. Thinking about thinking is the first step in formulating a theory about thinking, and writing it down or making a song and passing it along to your children and others. When the thoughts about thoughts have been formalized into a persistent and transferrable pattern, we have a 4th level pattern phenomena. That's what I'd call, "intellectual". But as I've said before, I think the 4th level would be easier to pin down and less confusing for newbies if we called it the "philosophical level". And now we've discussed the obvious (to me anyway) for the one hundred and FIRST time. Yay us.
