I live in Zelzate , on the edge of the channel Gent-Terneuzen, at spitting distance, i do most of my reading here, looking at the channel . Pirsig sailed this channel, probably in '80,'81, and moored with his boat in the port of Ghent. This was the period Nell was conceived. It is very likely that he was working on "Lila", on the channel. I try to rethink his wherabouts here often, I found Ghent also in Minnesota as a small village, founded by belgians, I also found Groningen(Holland), founded by dutch immigrants, so Pirsig was interested in what he could correlate "new world" versus "old world"-Minnesota-Belgium. I concider this as extremely interesting, i'm a bit of a purist. So , this was my introduction. Adrie.
