Hello Adrie
Welcome from a fellow European trying to cope with the English
language. I guess you are situated in the Flemish part of Belgium?

I would also have liked to say welcome to the MOQ discussion, but of
late it has become a principle NOT to speak about Pirsig's ideas.
About every philosopher except Pirsig has been promoted in addition
to private "systems" *) Academical philosophy surely is in trouble and
Pirsig's MOQ is a way out of its logjam, but no one will hear about this
and continue in the Socratic vein. One feels transported back to
Athens 300 BC when listening to the "what is truth" debate. Pirsig says
that (the notion of) truth appeared with the intellectual level - is what
that level's "objectivity" is based on - but most participants are
oblivious to this, to them MOQ is just another intellectual pattern,
meaning a figment of our mind and truth is still something "out there".

*) Expect sarcastic remarks about my SOL interpretation, but at least I
stick to the MOQ.

About Pirsig sailing up there .. maybe, I believed he started further
north on his way to the Mediterranean Sea, but about this I'm not sure.
But Nell was born before starting om the Atlantic crossing - the first
one to Europe - of that I'm fairly sure.

That he worked on the book LILA is for sure, I learned about that while
he was in Sweden in 1980 and it was still ten years till its publication
