It is very likely that he was working on "Lila", on the channel. I try to rethink his wherabouts here often, I found Ghent also in Minnesota as a small village, founded by belgians, I also found Groningen(Holland), founded by dutch immigrants, so Pirsig was interested in what he could correlate "new world" versus "old world"-Minnesota-Belgium.
