Compassion just seems natural; as long as there is there is suffering pure joy is not long-lived. I don't think you need someone to tell you about it. It needs to be discovered.
Ego seems to destroy compassion and joy(love). Here's how I think that Love fits into the MOQ: "The social values are right only if the individual values are right. The place to improve the world is first in one's own heart and head and hands, and then work outward from there. Other people can talk about how to expand the destiny of mankind.
