It was intellectual freedom that came up with gods, and kings, and then different gods, and then one god, reading and writing, poetry, art, music, legal systems, politics, money, trade, etc. All these changing ideas happened and continue to change to this day in the Social Level. The Social level is not deadly static and fixed in stone. The Intellectual level is not even required to exist for these things to happen. The Social Level focuses on how we create or destroy community, human interaction, and how we organize ourselves; how we accommodate and interact; how we relate emotionally; what is acceptable behavior and what is not. These are the problems the Social Level can address and it uses the intellect we have always had to do so every day.
What we didn't have at the Social Level was particle physics, technology, medicine, nuclear warheads, computers, or motorcycles. Praying over your motorcycle is not going to fix it. Neither is passing a law that says it's illegal for it to be broken. Feeling empathy for your motorcycle, drawing a picture of it, writing a sonnet about it, or singing a song to it won't fix it either. The Social Level values controlling the emotional excesses of the Biological Level. Greed, envy, sloth, ego, avarice, vice. These, the Social Level can do something about, and over time it has come up with some pretty innovative ways to do so. Do a thought experiment. What if the Intellectual Level and everything it values were to disappear right now, this instant? What would be gone? What would be left? I think you would agree that to do this experiment, you have to decide what the Intellectual Level values that is distinct from what the Social Level values.
