Matt said to Ian:
... I actually put forward an argument (or, at least an outline for one) for
thinking that Horse's rationale--singling out the differentiating criterion for
"what Pirsig thinks" to be between "what he says" and "suppositions,
implications, and inferences" from what he says--is actually untenable (and
therefore not a good way to cut the chaff from the wheat).

It looks like you're trying too hard to apply something you've been reading.
Maybe you missed a few posts and don't quite realize how clear and unequivocal
the issue is. I mean, the evidence isn't really open to interpretation and yet
Platt and Bo both persist anyway. I think the following should be re-quoted at
the top of every post from Bo and Platt from now on. Check it out.
>From Lila's Child, Chapter 13...
Platt said:
Bo has maintained that the intellectual level is SOM (rationality, language,
science). It's gradually seeped into my mind that Bo is right about this. ...
Pirsig replied:
I've always thought this is incorrect because many forms of intellect do not
have a subject-object construction. These include logic itself, mathematics,
computer programming languages, and, I believe some primitive languages
(although I can't remember what they are).
Platt said:
After all, the MOQ is an SOM document based on SOM reasoning. ...I fully agree
with Bo's insight that the SOM and the intellectual level are one and the same.
.., the MOQ is the best S/O answer I've found yet.
Pirsig replied:
I think this conclusion undermines the MOQ,.. The MOQ is in opposition to
subject-object metaphysics. To say that it is a part of that system which it
opposes sounds like a dismissal. ... I see a lowering of the quality of the MOQ
itself if you follow this path of subordinating it to that which it opposes.
